Course Leader & Module Leader

Clare is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Cultural Management & Events Management. She was one of the original contributors to the development of the BA(Hons) Creative Events Management and has been teaching on the course since its inception in 2010. She also teaches on BA(Hons) Music, Theatre, Entertainment Management.

Clare has been designing and delivering projects and events in the creative industries for nearly 20 years. She specialises in arts, community, heritage and environment projects and has worked with organisations including the World Wildlife Fund, Holburne Museum of Fine Art, Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Exeter, Plymouth and Bristol Universities.

She is the co-founder of an award-winning event management agency, Mackerel Sky, and continues to act as an industry consultant on a diverse portfolio of cultural activity, including delivery of cultural management training for industry professionals.

Clare is passionate about developing creative events practitioners who can bring a combination of academic theory, practical ability and a flair for innovation to the global creative industries.

  • Setting up her first event management business in 2007 with £200 and nothing to lose!
  • Managing a seafood festival (to which she is allergic) whilst heavily pregnant (not sure this is recommended…)
  • Winning the Falmouth University Staff Excellence Award for Outstanding Innovation in Teaching in 2016
  • Being shortlisted for the international Learning Technologies award Best Online Distance Learning Programme 2017.
