MA Photography students to attend Arles festival

Tue 1 Dec 2020

The Roman city of Arles is in Provence, located near Cannes and Nice, slightly inland of the Côte d’Azure. The city has a long relationship with the visual arts, not least since Van Gough made much of his work in this area and lived in the city, including spending time in the hospital, which is one of the venues for the festival.

The Arles festival has been running for 50 years and is one of the most important annual fixtures of the world of contemporary photography. As well as a week of talks, screenings, openings and other events, the festival is primarily a summer-long collection of exhibitions. These tend to be retrospectives of major practitioners or installations commissioned especially for the festival. Exhibition venues are across vernacular sites in the city as well as the purposely developed ‘ateliers’ just outside the very centre

From 26 July to 28 July Falmouth Flexible MA Photography students will gather in Arle to attend various exhibits at the festival, alongside Course Coordinator Jesse Alexander and Module Leader Wendy McMurdo.

The event will include social events and portfolio reviews, where students can get feedback on their current works in progress.
