Joint Course Leader

Kate is an experienced international news journalist who has held senior roles with major global news agencies Associated Press and Reuters.

Most recently heading up AP’s Moscow Bureau, Kate led breaking news and investigative coverage across the former Soviet bloc and still does occasional freelance journalism in the region.

The MA Journalism, which she helped to author, draws particularly on her talents for news storytelling as well as networking, innovation and a passion for exploring the powers of digital technology and enterprise alongside new generation and established journalists.

  • 2012 - led a team of product developers and journalists to launch award-winning Reuters Live Online, a new internet live video service
  • Guest lecturer at Moscow journalism institute MGIMO 2016; City University 2017
  • Member of judging panel Rory Peck awards 2014 Extensive hostile environment experience covering conflict in the field, including the Chechen war 1994 and east Ukraine 2015
  • 2008 - awarded Reuters Story of the Year for running video news coverage of Russia-Georgia War.
