Students on Falmouth Flexible's Writing for Script & Screen MA attended a three day face to face event in Milan in September, and visited the Screenwriting Research Network Conference.
At the conference, the top researchers and practitioners in the academy gathered to discuss, share and present their latest work in the field of screenwriting.
The event was packed with panel discussions, presentations (including papers by John Finnegan and Dr. Eleanor Yule) and keynote speakers from Italian television and film production.
Highlights included a talk by Paolo Braga (Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore) focused on the Italian storytelling approach to TV seriality compared to the US method.
There were also sessions on adapting a movie into a TV series, writing female characters, writing comedy and screenwriting history.
Our students ended the event with drinks and a chance to reflect on the conference and discuss how the opportunities they have participated in will help their practice as screenwriters.
The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with one student telling us that the event was 'a fabulous opportunity to meet like-minded people and potential writing partners'.
