Module Leader

Rose’s teaching practice is rooted in traditional and contemporary media workshops with a focus on printmaking and collage designed to create playful and experimental methods of working through which to develop a strong, personal and individual visual language and voice.

Rose has gained a wealth of experience as a practicing illustrator over the past 15 years working in the fields of editorial, packaging, textiles, poster design, children’s book illustration and greetings cards.

Her practice-based research is focused on the communicative potential of media, process and mark making, how we use it in the context of storytelling. Another area of research which interests her is how play and making mistakes is central to our learning and how to nurture this in our day to day practice.

She is currently working on a children’s book as a spring board from which to explore relationships between words and images, more precisely working backwards producing the illustrations through experimental playful processes then responding to the work in writing.

Four of Rose's career highlights

  • ‘On the Road’ By Jack Kerouac adapted for children
  • Textile designs for Anthropology and Joy clothing stores
  • Farmstand packaging
  • Port Eliot Festival Poster
