Stuart Tolley is a practising art director, graphic designer and Thames & Hudson published author.

He is the Director of Transmission graphic design studio, based in Brighton, and lecturers on the MA Graphic Design course.

He has a specific interest in the music, magazine, typography, photographic and book publishing industries.

Four of Stuart's career highlights

  • Starting as a designer on Sleazenation, the independent music, style and culture magazine and since working with some of the most prestigious names in the publishing, arts and culture industries

  • Authoring two visual culture books, MIN: The New Simplicity in Graphic Design and Collector's Edition: Innovative Packaging and Graphics, which are published by Thames & Hudson. Both books explore contemporary design trends that occur in response to digital developments and social and political changes

  • Hosting panel talks about photographing music (Bleep 10 years, The Barbican) and simplification in graphic design (Soho House) speaking about Minimalism in graphic design, at the It’s Nice That ‘Nicer Tuesdays’ event and being interviewed by Monocle Radio, about limited edition graphic design for the music industry

  • Curating numerous exhibitions, including Collector’s Edition, held at the KK Outlet in London, to launch his first book and the Life in 2050 exhibition, to promote the launch of the Sci-Fi London film festival.
