How to Write Your Personal Statement

Tue 1 Dec 2020

Decided to apply for a Falmouth Flexible distance learning degree?

It's important to spend some time writing your personal statement. It's your opportunity to show your enthusiasm, potential and suitability for your chosen course.

There is a limit of 5000 characters (about 500 words) including spaces and punctuation.

Your personal statement should usually consist of a self-introduction, your qualifications and experience, reasons why you choose to study this course online and how this qualification will help you to achieve your goals.

We recommend you send your statement to one of our experienced course advisors to review and provide you with feedback before you submit it to the applicant portal.

At Falmouth Flexible, we recommend you split your personal statement into three sections:

Reasons for choosing your course

Describe why you are applying and what attracted you to the University. Write about your interests in the subject and what you hope to gain from studying with us in terms of personal and professional development.

Personal career ambitions

Describe the professional pathway you would like to take in the future and your long term career goals. How will your chosen course help you achieve your career objectives?

Background information and your suitability for the course

Tell us about your own experience and studies/work you have done in the past that relate to your chosen field. Describe any relevant skills or achievements gained from education, work or other activities that make you the right candidate for this course. Explain how you are going to put your existing skills into practice and what particular areas you would like to develop during the course.
