Ready to start your application for a Falmouth Flexible distance learning degree?

Before you start, read our helpful checklist to ensure your application has the best possible chance of success.

Check entry requirements

Before starting your MA application make sure you meet our entry requirements. You can check these on each course page. Generally speaking, we accept an honours degree or level 6 equivalent qualification. If English is not your first language we ask for proof of proficiency of English which should correspond to a minimum overall score of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.

If you have any questions regarding equivalent qualifications or experience please get in touch with our Course Advisers by calling +44 (0)1223 447713 or emailing flexible@falmouth.ac.uk if you haven’t already spoken to one.

Write a personal statement

Spend some time writing your personal statement. There is a limit of 5000 characters (about 500 words) including spaces and punctuation.

Your personal statement should usually consist of a self-introduction, your qualifications and experience, reasons why you choose to study this course online and how this qualification will help you to achieve your goals.

We recommend you send your statement to one of our experienced Course Advisers to review and provide you with feedback before you submit it to the applicant portal.

Prepare your additional documents

You will need to upload the following documents to the applicant portal to support your application:

  • Scanned copy of proof of identification (such as a passport)
  • Scanned copies of transcripts and previous qualifications

It's a good idea to have these ready before you start your application.

For certain courses, you will also need to provide a portfolio or writing sample to demonstrate your creative ability. Please speak to our Course Advisers by calling +44 (0)1223 447713 or emailing flexible@falmouth.ac.uk for guidance on what's required for your chosen course.

Coffee and to-do list

Select your referees

You need to provide two references, ideally one from an academic and one from a professional background. Think about who could provide a reference for you and make a note of their contact details. Make sure to inform your referees that they will be contacted by us.

Submit an online application

Once you have your personal statement, supporting documents and referee details ready, go to our online MA application page to start your application.

After you have created a new account, you will need to fill in your personal details like date of birth and address. You can add academic qualifications and professional experience as well as your personal statement. Enter your referees' contact details and tick all the boxes in the declaration window.

You can then submit your application right away or save it and return later if you wish to make any changes.

When can you expect to hear from us?

After you have submitted your application you will receive an email with your student number and all our contact details, so you can get in touch if you have any queries. Our Admissions Office will contact you if any further documents are required.

We aim to make a decision within two weeks of having received a complete application including all required documents. If you receive an offer from us (conditional or unconditional) you will need to pay a £250 acceptance fee to secure your place.
